• irregardless of the genotype of the females, male mice never sire offspring

hematopoietic system
• spleen weight is increased (166+/-34 mg compared to 87+/-13 mg in wild-type mice)
• mild anemia is accompanied by a compensatory extramedullary hematopoiesis, splenomegaly, expansion of red pulp and increase in the number of erythroid colony-forming units and erythropoietic burst formations
• the number of B220+ CD43+ pro-B cells are increased 2- to 3-fold relative to in wild-type mice
• platelets are produced more slowly than in wild-type mice but are cleared at the same rate
• extramedullary hematopoiesis occurs in the spleen
• bone marrow cell number is reduced to 70% of that observed in wild-type mice
