• treatment of macrophages with purified flagellin in the presence or absence of DOTAP which mediates protein delivery into the cytosol does not induce activation of Casp1 in mutants, but does treatment with flagellin and DOTAP induces activation in Tlr5-deficient cells or wild-type macrophages (J:112671)
• in response to Legionella activation, activation of Casp1 which suppresses Legionella activation, does not occur in deficient macrophages (J:117251)
• Legionella counts increase 150-fold over a 72 hour period in infected bone marrow-derived macrophages from null mice, whereas macrophages from Tlr4-, Nod1-, or Nlrp3-deficient mice do not support bacterial replication (multiplicity of infection 0.5)
