• homozygous mutant splenocytes stimulated in vitro with anti-CD3 antibody proliferated significantly less than did those from wild-type mice
• following in vitro stimulation with low doses of anti-T cell receptor (anti-TCR) and anti-CD28 antibodies, the response of purified mutant splenic CD4+ T cells previously cultured under Th1/Th2 neutral conditions was skewed toward Th1, as indicated by their reduced expression, relative to wild-type cells, of IL-4; mutant and wild-type CD4+ T cells' responses were indistinguishable if stimulation followed preculture under Th1 or Th2 polarizing conditionss, and optimization of anti-TCR/anti-CD28 doses reduced the response difference to insignificance
