• upon induction of loxP-cre mediated recombinations by administration of the synthetic steroid, RU486 in Purkinje cells of the mutant mice cerebellum, following phenotype were observed

• presynaptic active zones shrank progressively and postsynaptic density expanded, resulting in mismatching between presynaptic and postsynaptic specializations at parallel fiber-Purkinje cell synapses

• when glutamate receptor gamma 2 proteins were diminished, Purkinje cell spines lost their synaptic contacts
