immune system
• gamma-delta T cells found in lung epithelia preferentially express Vdelta4 instead of Vdelta1 as occurs in wild-type
• this Vdelta4 expression predominates at 4 weeks of age with irregular expression of the other Vdelta segments occurring less frequently than in wild-type mice
• the Vdelta recombination with J segments has limited diversity with 74% expressing a GGIR motif compared to just 23% in wild-type lung epithelial gamma delta T cells
• Vdelta usage of these lung epithelial gamma delta T cells becomes more diverse as mice age
• the number of gamma-delta T cells found in lung epithelia is about half that of wild-type at 4 weeks of age though no significant differences are observed in older mice (6-20 weeks of age)

immune system
• there is no recombination with the Vdelta-1 segment
• Vdelta6-Jdelta1 recombination is common within mature DETC and fetal thymocytes in contrast to the Vdelta1-Jdelta1 recombination seen in wild-type DETC
• Vdelta7-Jdelta1 recombination is also observed within fetal thymocytes while rarely being observed in wild-type
• the percentage and number of gamma-delta TCR+ thymocytes are markedly reduced during the early fetal period (E15-E18)
• the numbers are 20-fold less at E15 and E16, and 4-fold less at E18
• numbers of Vgamma5+ thymocytes are reduced even further compared to controls, with nearly 60 times less on E15, 30 times less on E16, and 10 times less on E18
• numbers of Vgamma5+ thymocytes are reduced in newborns compared to wild-type
• Vgamma5- DETC are observed in the epidermis while virtually all wild-type DETC are Vgamma5+
• many of these Vgamma5- DETC are found in clusters, and have a less dendritic shape and lower TCR expression than their Vgamma5+ DETC counterparts
• there is a 22% reduction at 8 weeks of age and a 14% reduction at 16 weeks of age in the number of dendritic epithelial T cells (DETC) found in ear epidermis
• Vgamma5- DETC are observed in the epidermis while virtually all wild-type DETC are Vgamma5+
• only half of the DETC in mice 8 weeks of age express Vgamma5 with 20% of the DETC expressing Vgamma1
• Vgamma5+ DETC numbers increase as these mice age with almost a doubling between 1 and 8 weeks of age and almost tripling between 1 and 16 weeks of age
