Gross abnormalities in Lpar1tm1Jch/Lpar1tm1Jch mice

mortality/aging
• approximately 15% die shortly after birth
• approximately 35% die before 3 weeks of age

behavior/neurological
• pups exhibited either no suckling behavior or impaired suckling behavior; normal rooting behavior was noted; authors postulate that defects in olfaction detection or processing resulted in this phenotype

craniofacial

growth/size/body
• juveniles and adults are smaller
• 30% reduction in size of animals surviving birth relative to control siblings

vision/eye
• widely spaced eyes

nervous system
• increase in apoptosis of Schwann cells in the Sciatic nerve (18% versus 10% in wild-type)
• observed in 3 of 61 mice
• increase in apoptosis in the sciatic nerve

cardiovascular system
• 4 of 160 embryos and neonates exhibit frontal cranial hemorrhage

adipose tissue
• lower relataive amounts of fat
