• male hemizygotes are viable, fertile and developmentally normal with no pathological or histological abnormalities in all major organ systems up to 10 months of age
• however, male hemizygotes lack a bombesin (BN)-induced satiety response: BN produces a significant suppression of glucose intake in wild-type mice at doses of 3.2, 10, and 32 nmol/kg but fails to suppress glucose intake at any dose with no apparent weight gain in mutant males
