behavior/neurological
• mice exhibit impaired pairwise visual discrimination, requiring more trials to reach criterion, performing more correction trials, and increased preservation index
• mice are impaired on early reversal learning, taking more trials to reach criterion and requiring more correction trials overall and when adjusting for other factors and exhibit this similar phenotype on late reversal learning
• mice are impaired at extinction, responding at a higher rate throughout the extinction sessions
• mice show no differences in locomotor activity, reward collection time or latency to touch stimuli across reversal learning

behavior/neurological
• mutants do not show any locomotor stimulation in response to a Grm5, MPEP, antagonist whereas wild-type littermates display increased locomotor activity

nervous system
• field excitatory postsynaptic potential (fEPSP) depression by (1S,3R)-1-amino-cyclopentane-1,3-dicarboxylic acid (ACPD) is attenuated (12+/-10% compared to 55.5+/-4.6% in wild-type mice at 50uM ACPD)
• however, fEPSP depression by ACPD at 300uM is normal
• significant reduction in long term depression (LTP) in NMDA receptor-dependent pathways, such as the CA1 region and dentate gyrus of the hippocampus, but not in NMDA receptor-independent pathways, such as the mossy fiber synapses of the CA3 region
• LTP in the last 30 minutes after tetanus was 50.2+/-5.7% above baseline compared to 77.6+/-10.2% above base line in wild-type mice
behavior/neurological
• mice exhibit a decrease in contextual fear conditioning
• mice exhibit decreased learning acquisition in a hidden platform water maze
• in a water maze, mice spend less time searching for the target quadrant and cross the platform less frequently when compared with wild-type mice
• however, locomotion and performance in an open field test are normal
