growth/size/body
• affected mice are normal in size until about 16 days of age when they appear smaller than normal littermates
• weanlings weigh 8.8 percent less than wild-type littermates

integument
• random hair loss in patches occurs on the forehead, then back and abdomen
• after the final shedding cycle there is increasing hair loss until 12-14 weeks of age when affected mice are completely bare except for the muzzle
• typical at 40 days of age
• Background Sensitivity: on this background affected mice have a slight coat striation compared with normal littermates by 7 days of age; on BALB/c (N7) this feature is distinguishable by 10 days of age
• patchy loss of the first coat is followed by regrowth during days 16-20, followed by second patchy shedding one week later
• final shedding cycle begins soon after 40 days of age, first on the forehead and spreads over the back and abdomen
• Background Sensitivity: on this background by 7 days of age wrinkled skin differentiates affected mice from normal littermates; on BALB/c (N7) affected mice are distinguishable from normal littermates by 10 days of age
