A loxP site flanked neomycin/zeomycin resistance gene cassette that was inserted downstream of alternative exon VII was deleted through Cre-mediated recombination. Basal synthesis of the gene product was unaffected but translation of the gene in neurons did not increase in response to Ca²⁺ influx. (J:139381, J:278700)
