description
Allele Type:    Gene trapped (Null/knockout, Reporter)
Mutation:    Insertion of gene trap vector

Mutation detailsA gene trap vector inserted into an intron near the 5' end of the gene. The transcript expressed from this allele fuses 5' UTR elements of the endogenous gene to the beta-galactosidase/neomycin gene fusion in the inserted gene trap vector. No endogenous intact transcript was detectable by in situ hybridization, northern blot or RT-PCR analysis on homozygous embryos. (J:68833)

Notes
When tetraploid wild-type embryos are aggregated with mutant ES cells to generate chimeras with wild-type extraembryonic lineages, all chimeric embyros develop normal heads and mesoderm indicating Rnf111 function is required in extraembryonic lineages for normal development.
