  Two classes of lysozyme c are defined as P and M. There are two types of M based on electophoretic mobility; the 73 type found in inbred castaneus strain CASA and the 68 type in the C3H strain. When outbred castaneus mice containing both the 68 and 73 forms were backcrossed to (C3H x CASA)F1 mice, a linked two locus model determining M lysozyme was suggested. The loci are designated as Lyzs1 and Lzm-s2.
