    The Chd7 mutation was mapped to proximal mouse Chromosome 4 near the centromere using a (C3HeB/FeJ-Flo x C57BL/6J)F1 x C3HeB/FeJ-Flo backcross population. The Chd7 mutation localized to a 6.3 cM region between D4Mit171 (6.3 cM) and the centromere. Chd7 showed tight linkage to markers D4Mit235 (1.9 cM) and D4Mit101 (3.2 cM).

    The Chd7 locus shows synteny to regions on human Chromosomes 6 and 8. Chd7 maps near a previously identified inner ear mutant named Whl (1.9 cM) and may be allelic. A potential candidate gene mapping near Chd7 is Pou3f2 at 6.3 cM.
