Caption PikfyveGt(AT0926)Wtsi/PikfyveGt(AT0926)Wtsi (PikfyveBeta-geo/Beta-geo) mutants have degeneration in the spleen and kidneys. Homozygous mutants that survived past 1 week showed significant degeneration in the kidney. (A) H&E-stained spleen from P16 homozygous pups revealed that the spleen had less cellular density, and numerous vacuoles were present. (B) H&E-stained kidney from homozygous P0 pups showed multiple small vacuoles in the renal tubules (arrow). The overall structure of the glomeruli was unaffected. (C) H&E-stained kidney from homozygous P19 pups revealed more extensive degeneration than observed in the kidney of P0 pups. Some of the tubules were filled with vacuoles (arrowhead).
