Caption (D) A recently weaned (Con) control mouse (top: 16 g) and a Slc39a4tm2Gka/Slc39a4tm2Gka Tg(Vil1-cre/ERT2)23Syr/0 (bottom: 9.8 g) mouse were photographed 8 days after initiation of the knockout (tamoxifen injection). Every Slc39a4-intestine knockout mouse examined died within 16 days of initiation of the knockout.
