In the wild type mouse (A), the Initial Bud Stage submandibular gland (SMG) is seen in the mandible ventrolateral to the tongue. By contrast, the SMG bud (outlined in white in the Fgfr2^tm1.1Dsn/Fgfr2^tm1.1Dsn (B) and Fgf10^tm1Ska/Fgf10^tm1Ska (C) mice is extremely small, resembling the earliest Initial Bud Stage SMG.
