• at 10-11 weeks of age, colonocyte number is significantly decreased in the proximal colon relative to that in wild-type controls
• however, colonic crypt length and colonic epithelium proliferation are normal
• at 10-11 weeks of age, the number of mucus-secreting goblet cells is significantly increased in the proximal colonic mucosa relative to that in wild-type controls
