N normal phenotype
cardiovascular system
• mice show a 25% reduction in the number of vessels in the sciatic nerve indicating that the network of vasa nervorum is reduced
• 40% increase in acellular capillaries in the retina indicating retinal vascular damage

hematopoietic system
• mice exhibit bone marrow neuropathy, with a decrease in tyrosine hydroxylase-positive and neurofilament 200-positive nerve processes at 4 and 12 months of age
• 4 month old mice show a 2-fold increase in lin- sca1+ c-Kit+ (LSK) cells within the bone marrow, indicating a dysfunction in bone marrow progenitor cell (BMPC) release from bone marrow
• BMPCs show decreased colony formation and NO levels
• BMPCs show a 3-fold decrease in proliferation

cellular
• BMPCs show a 3-fold decrease in proliferation

homeostasis/metabolism
• mice are normoglycemic and show better recovery after glucose challenge than wild-type mice

nervous system
• mice exhibit bone marrow neuropathy, with a decrease in tyrosine hydroxylase-positive and neurofilament 200-positive nerve processes at 4 and 12 months of age, respectively

vision/eye
• increase in retinal permeability
• dissociation of tight junctions and adherens junctional integrity in the retina
• 40% increase in acellular capillaries in the retina indicating retinal vascular damage
