growth/size/body
• homozygotes are approximately half the normal size

hearing/vestibular/ear
• Two of two homozygotes assessed at four and a half weeks of age showed elevated thresholds at all frequencies whereas wildtype controls had elevated frequencies only at 32 kHz

reproductive system
• compared with controls homozygous females have reduced fertility, but many do breed without hormone supplements when crossed to BALB/cByJ males
• only one male homozygote bred on this CXB10/HiAJ background, but when bred further to BALB/cByJ male homozygous fertility improves

endocrine/exocrine glands

mortality/aging
• many homozygotes die around 3 weeks of age, and if they survive through wean age will usually survive to adulthood and live a relatively normal lifespan
• there is some premature death in the adult population
• heterozygous intercrosses produce fewer than the expected 25% homozygotes
