Altered trabecular morphology and organization in the growth plate of Col10a1tm1Ksec/Col10a1tm1Ksec mice

skeleton
• some mice exhibit coxa vara (a reduction in the angle between the femoral neck and shaft)
• at P2, the resting zone of chondrocytes of the growth plate in femurs is reduced 18% to 25% compared to in wild-type mice
• at P2, mice exhibit an increase in the amount of matrix vesicles and proteoglycan-like material in the resting and proliferating zones while the quantity of matrix vesicles and proteoglycan-like material in the upper hypertrophic zone is reduced compared with wild-type mice
• at P2 but not 4 weeks, the femur shaft mineral content is decreased compared with wild-type femurs
• at 4 weeks the mineral content of the femur head is decreased compared with wild-type femurs
• at P2, the trabecular zone is more compact, has reduced bony material, and has reduced bone marrow space compared to in wild-type mice
• the trabecular zone exhibits increased compaction over time
• Background Sensitivity: alterations in trabecular zone are more obvious than in mice with a mixed background
• mineral distribution in the trabeculae is irregular and patchy compared to in wild-type mice
• at 4 weeks, trabecular bone content is greater than in wild-type mice
