Cystic kidneys in Tg(CAG-PKD2)#Hwl/? mice

renal/urinary system
• increase in the number of proliferating cells per tubule, located around cysts especially at late cyst stages
• increase in the number of apoptotic cells per tubule mainly at the intermediate stage of cyst formation
• bilateral cysts first appearing at 6 months of age
• number and size of cysts increases with age
• cysts develop mostly from proximal tubules but cysts developing form collecting ducts and distal tubules are also seen
• cysts display distinct morphological stages characterized by changes in the morphology of cells lining the cysts from cuboidal to flat
