limbs/digits/tail
• most commonly occurs on both hind feet but other foot combinations and all feet are sometimes involved
• Background Sensitivity: syndactylism is seen in 100% of offpsring on Swiss albino background but only 94% of hybrids with C57BL/6 show effects
• Background Sensitivity: two or three digits on one or more feet show varying degrees of fusion
• incipient syndactylism is noted at E11.5 as a loss of postaxial tissue and slight decrease in tisse in the preaxial region
• by E13 reduction of footplate tissue is primarily postaxial, allowing the blastemata of digits 2,3, and 4 to develop close together
