• total cholesterol levels are reduced by 25% in female mice and about 15% in male mice
• cholesterol levels in female mice fed a high-fat diet for 5 months rise significantly less than in wild-type controls
• HDL cholesterol levels are reduced by 15% in female but not male mice
• VLDL+LDL cholesterol levels are reduced by half in female but not male mice
• VLDL+LDL cholesterol levels in female mice fed a high-fat diet for 5 months rise significantly less than in wild-type controls
• VLDL+LDL cholesterol levels are reduced by half in female but not male mice
• VLDL+LDL cholesterol levels in female mice fed a high-fat diet for 5 months rise significantly less than in wild-type controls
• plasma triglycerides are reduced by 15% in both female and male mice
• triglyceride levels remain low after acute fat loading tests compared to wild-type mice that have sharp increases in triglyceride levels
