homeostasis/metabolism
• insulin secretion in response to 16.7 mM glucose was significantly enhanced in both the first and second phases by approximately 200% of the control level
• the blood glucose levels examined in fasting mice or after a glucose load were significantly lower in mutant mice

endocrine/exocrine glands
• the ultrastructure of the mutant beta cells showed a deficit in insulin-granule docking at the plasma membrane
• the number of docked granules was significantly reduced
• the granule number per cell section, the beta cell size, and the average granule density were unchanged
• insulin secretion in response to 16.7 mM glucose was significantly enhanced in both the first and second phases by approximately 200% of the control level
