• no formation of the embryonic axis, head-fold or somites
• disorganized expansion of the embryonic ectoderm
• development is arrested shortly after gastrulation
• at E8.5, no fetal portion evident and at E9.5, embryo is highly disorganized (J:11389)
• no recognizable head fold formation
• at E8.5, the region normally occupied by early-head-fold-stage embryo contained randomly organized, highly folded multicellular tissue layers inserted into the ectoplacental cone
• at an early gastrulation stage (E6.5) no evidence of the primitive streak
• the extra-embryonic ectoderm is not displaced proximally towards the ectoplacental cone by mesodermal cells
• disorganized expansion of the extra-embryonic ectoderm
• the proximal region of the embryo, comprising the extra-embryonic ectoderm, was no longer symmetrical but often exhibited an irregular twisted surface
• the correct number of parietal endoderm cells form, but the parietal yolk sac fails to expand correctly in the absence of a normal, rapidly growing, fetal portion
• at E9.5, ectoplacental cone reduced in size
• diploid spongiotrophoblasts are lost
• absent visceral yolk sac at E8.5
• deficient formation and/or movement of the extra-embryonic mesoderm
