• the number of DEN-induced hepatocellular carcinomas (HCC) in male mice is 5-fold higher than in similarly treated wild-type mice
• the diameter of DEN-induced HCCs in male mice is 2-fold larger than in similarly treated wild-type mice
• DEN-induced HCCs in male mice exhibit neovascularization and macro-vesicular fatty change in the liver unlike in similarly treated wild-type mice
• CCL4-treated mice exhibit decreased hepatocellular necrosis with no evidence of bridging necrosis or ballooning hepatocytes unlike in wild-type mice

• very few apoptotic cells are seen in the luminal ducts and acinous tissue of the preputial gland in homozygotes unlike in wild-type mice

endocrine/exocrine glands
• after 4 months of age swelling of the preputial gland is observed and by 12 months greater than 50% of homozygotes display visibly swollen preputial glands in pathogen-free environment
• in all but one homozygote the swelling was confined to one side of the gland where viscous fluid, keratinization, inflammation, granulomatous lesions, duct contraction and duct blockage were observed
• on the contralateral side of the gland the number of luminal ducts is decreased and cells undergo hyperplasia
