phenotype observed in females
phenotype observed in males
N normal phenotype
mortality/aging
• death occurred around the 1st week of age

growth/size/body
• although of normal size at birth, homozygotes became noticeably smaller than normal by 3-4 days of age
• by 7 days of age homozygotes were severely runted (1/3 normal weight)

hematopoietic system
• elevated numbers of granulocyte precursors in bone marrow and spleen as animals age
• atrophy in mice over 6 days of age
• 3 fold increase in peripheral WBC count - about 95% neutrophils
• small size by day 2 with a worsening size reduction until death

immune system
• elevated numbers of granulocyte precursors in bone marrow and spleen as animals age
• atrophy in mice over 6 days of age
• 3 fold increase in peripheral WBC count - about 95% neutrophils
• small size by day 2 with a worsening size reduction until death

integument
• poorly defined basal layer
• significant sloughing

cellular
• elevated numbers of granulocyte precursors in bone marrow and spleen as animals age

endocrine/exocrine glands
• atrophy in mice over 6 days of age

mortality/aging
• double homozygotes are born alive but remain cyanotic and die within 10-30 minutes

hematopoietic system
• increased among B cells
• increased among T cells in transition from double positive to single positive
• decreased numbers of B cell precursors
• very low numbers of immature B cells
• development from the double positive stage to the single positive stage is reduced
• clear reduction of B220+CD43- cells
