The molecular difference with other strains is the deletion of nine base pairs (GGCGCTGTC) in the coding region of exon 3 of the gene in the Par2 (pulmonary adenoma resistance 2) region. This deletion removes three codons, GAC-AGC-GCC coding for Asp-Ser-Ala (amino-acids 32-34 in UniProt Q8CB14), that confer sensitivity to urethane-induced pulmonary adenomas. Through epistatic interaction with the Lrmp^rs13459098-C sensitive and Lrmp^rs13459098-T resistant alleles in the pulmonary adenoma susceptibility 1 (Pas1) region these Par2 alleles modulate the sensitivity or resistance of the two Pas1 alleles.
