Reference: J:19026 Abbott BD, et al., Glucocorticoid receptor expression during the development of the embryonic mouse secondary palate. J Craniofac Genet Dev Biol. 1994 Apr-Jun;14(2):87-96
Assay type: Immunohistochemistry
MGI Accession ID: MGI:5902352
Gene symbol: Nr3c1
Gene name: nuclear receptor subfamily 3, group C, member 1
Antibody: Anti-GR (PA1-511)
Detection system: Biotinylated secondary antibody/[Strept]avidin coupled to horseradish peroxidase
Results
Specimen 3A,C: embryonic day 12.5 (more )
Structure Level Pattern Image Note
TS20: palatal shelf epithelium Present 3C , 3A Expression was strongly nuclear with cytoplasmic staining also observed in epithelia. Expression was throughout the tissues with no apparent regionalization, and there appeared to be few cells without immunostaining. Immunostaining was significantly higher in epithelium compared to mesenchyme.
TS20: palatal shelf mesenchyme Present 3C , 3A Expression was strongly nuclear. Expression was throughout the tissues with no apparent regionalization, and there appeared to be few cells without immunostaining.

Specimen not shown: embryonic day 13.5 (more )
Structure Level Pattern Image Note
TS21: palatal shelf epithelium Present Expression localization and staining density was similar to that seen at E12.5.
TS21: palatal shelf mesenchyme Present Expression localization and staining density was similar to that seen at E12.5.

Specimen 3B,D: embryonic day 14.5 (more )
Structure Level Pattern Image Note
TS22: nasal epithelium Present Non-Uniform 3B Expression differs between the upper epithelia distal to the palate and the cells adjacent to the palatal shelves.
TS22: palatal shelf mesenchyme Present Non-Uniform 3B , 3D The expression appeared heterogeneous with both strongly and weakly expressing cells.

Specimen 4A: embryonic day 12.5 (more )
Structure Level Pattern Image Note
TS20: palatal shelf epithelium Present Uniform 4A
TS20: palatal shelf mesenchyme Present Uniform 4A

Specimen 4B: embryonic day 14.5 (more )
Structure Level Pattern Image Note
TS22: palatal shelf epithelium Strong Regionally restricted 4B Strong expression was detected in the medial region in the fusion zone. Expression was both nuclear and cytoplasmic.
TS22: oral epithelium Present Regionally restricted 4B Expression was higher in medial oral cells compared to the lateral oral region.

Specimen 5A: embryonic day 14.5 (more )
Structure Level Pattern Image Note
TS22: nasal epithelium Present Regionally restricted 5A Expression in the upper nasal region had cytoplasmic localization.

Specimen 5B: embryonic day 14.5 (more )
Structure Level Pattern Image Note
TS22: nasal epithelium Strong Regionally restricted 5B Expression in the nasal epithelium adjacent to the palate was strong in basal nuclei, and densitometric scores were higher for this region than the upper nasal cavity.

Specimen 5C: embryonic day 15.5 (more )
Structure Level Pattern Image Note
TS23: nasal epithelium Strong Regionally restricted 5C Strong basal nuclear localization was observed. There was no differential staining in distal vs. proximal regions.

Specimen 6A,C,D: embryonic day 15.5 (more )
Structure Level Pattern Image Note
TS23: palatal shelf epithelium Present Regionally restricted 6A , 6C Expression was detected in the medial epithelial cells in the central palatal region. Expression was in both nucleus and cytoplasm. Epithelial expression exceeded mesenchymal expression.
TS23: palatal shelf mesenchyme Strong Single cells 6C , 6A
TS23: oral epithelium Present Regionally restricted 6A , 6D , 6C Medial oral epithelial cells (6C) had higher expression levels than the lateral cells (6D).

Specimen 6B: embryonic day 15.5 (more )
Structure Level Pattern Image Note
TS23: palatal shelf mesenchyme Strong Regionally restricted 6B Expression was strong in the lateral palate in regions of chondrogenesis relative to other surrounding mesenchyme.
