This locus regulates isoelectric focusing (IEF) pattern of the IgG anti-inulin antibodies produced in mice bearing the a haplotype of Igh. The a allele in BALB/c determines a single spectrotype by IEF. The b allele of C57BL/6, when carried by Igha-bearing mice, determines a more complex pattern.
