Linkage analysis was performed on a mapping population of 88 (129S/Sv-Trp53tm1TyJ Nf1tm1Tyj/+ + x C57BL/6J)F1 x 129S4/SvJae mice (37 females and 51 males) to identify genomic loci related to spinal cord resistance for astrocytoma. Mice were genotyped at 880 informative SNP markers (mouse genome build 37.1; mm9).

QTL Scram1 (spinal cord resistance to astrocytoma modifier 1) maps to Chromosome 5 between 129.0 - 152.5 Mb (from 67.26 cM to the distal end of Chromosome 5) with a peak LOD score of 5.03 at 77.26 cM (rs4225536). Mice heterozygous for C57BL/6J x 129S4/SvJae at the Scram1 locus show less astrocytoma in the spinal cord compared to 129S4/SvJae homozygous mice, although authors have shown previously that 129S4/SvJae mice are more resistant to astrocytoma than C57BL/6J. This finding suggests that the C57BL/6J allele confers resistance to astrocytoma in the spinal cord at the Scram1 locus.
