  • Experiment
Linkage analysis was performed on 332 (B6.129P2-Apoe-tm1Unc/J x C3.129P2(B6)-Apoe-tm1Unc)F2 intercross mice using 1347 markers to identify QTL associated with aortic medial disruption. Parental strain C3H/HeJ displays higher susceptibility to aortic medial disruption than C57BL/6J.

QTL Aasm1 maps to 43.7 - 127.5 Mb on Chromosome 6 with a peak LOD score of 6.81 (sex-covariate) or 5.93 (sex-interaction) at 74 cM in linkage with aortic medial disruption. Because of an inversion in the C3H/HeJ strain on chromosome 6, 74 cM may not accurately reflect the actual peak location of the Aasm1 QTL. C57BL/6J alleles confer decreased susceptibility to aortic medial disruption at the Aasm1 locus.
