    To identify modifier genes of IBD (Inflammatory bowel disease) the authors used an F2 intercross of IBD-resistant C57BL/6J-Il10 mice and IBD-susceptible C3H/HeJBir-Il10 (C3Bir-Il10) mice. Genome-wide interval mapping was used to map a major QTL in mouse Chromosome 3. 402 F2 mice were used to fine map the QTL interval in Chromosome 3. Highest LOD scores were found with SNPs rs3687177, rs13477318, and rs3720182. MGI assigns symbol Mibdq1 to this region. The authors present evidence and strongly suggest Vcam1 as the gene underlying for the QTL effect.
