  An Hya epitope H-YD^b is coded for by Uty. PCR analysis using primers designed from an exon within Uty indicated that the predicted PCR product of 170 bp observed in XY mice and XXSxr^a mice was absent in XX female and XXSxr^b mice showing that Uty is located within a small region deleted in transposition Tp(Y)1Ct. These data were confirmed using Southern analysis of male and female DNA in which a Y specific band present in males is absent in females. Consistent with the results obtained in PCR analysis the Y specific band was also absent in XXSxr^b mice.
