Hba-x was physically mapped 5' prime of Hba-a1 by the restriction analysis of Hba contiguous clones cML1 and cMa1. In addition the locus control region for the Hba complex was sequenced (GenBank UO8220) and localized 26kb 5' prime of Hba-x.
