Notes
  • Experiment
The authors physically mapped the following genes on mouse Chromosome 6 using overlapping phage clones P1-Evx, P1-1.10, P1-306 and P1-4.1.1: Hoxa1, Hoxa2, Hoxa3, Hoxa4, Hoxa5, Hoxa6, Hoxa7, Hoxa9, Hoxa10, Hoxa11, Hoxa13 and Evx1. A recombinational breakpoint was determined to exist in two of the (B6C3Fe-a/a-Hd x M. spretus)F1 x B6C3Fe +/+ mice in the region between D6Mit93 (Hoxa2) and (Hoxa9). RFLP analysis of Hd using D6Mit93 PCR products was consistent with the marker being close to this mutation. The most 5' gene of the Hox cluster (Hoxa13) was suggested to possibly be the best candidate for initial screening for Hd because of reported phenotypes of Hoxa10 and Hoxa11 mice, and the more distal effects observed in Hd mice.
