A probe derived from the mouse Y Chromosome hybridized to sequences on the X Chromosome. One of these sequences identified by a HindIII fragment of 3.6kb (Zfx) hybridized more intensely when two mouse X-Chromosomes were present. Chinese hamster with mouse hybrids were used to confirm an X location for Zfx. Hybrids VI-6 carries a complete X Chromosome, B20c12 carries a partial X from T(X;16)16H and N15 has a partial X from T(X;7)6Rl. The mYfin probe hybridized too the 3.6kb fragment from VI-6 and N15 but not B10c12 indicating that Zfx maps to a region identified by the T(X;16)16H and T(X;7)6Rl breakpoints. This region contains genes Xce, Pgk1 and Ags.
