  Butterflies and drops are amplified chromosome like structures in mouse P388 leukemic cells which carry amplified Abcb1 gene regions. Butterflies and drops were used to indicate that the Abcb1 locus is co-amplified with mouse Chromosome 5 locus Sri. However,Southern blotting of P388 sublines provided evidence that Abcb1 and Sri were co-amplified in butterflies only and not in drops, suggesting the later amplified structure may be larger then the former.
