The mobility variance exhibited via the Tail suspension Test (TST) was used to identified despair QTLs in mice. Low immobility strain RIIIS/J was mated to high immobility strains C57BL/6J and NZB/BlNJ to create 622 F2 offspring to map the difference in mobility. Significant QTLs were found in chromosomes 6 in the B6F2 cross, chromosome X in the NZBF2 cross and in chromosome X and 4 using mice from both crosses. The chromosome 6 QTL Desp4 mapped at position 37,022,895 bps with SNP rs3678202 ( LOD 4.001).Chromosome X (NZBF2) QTL Desp5 mapped at position 69,924,084 bps with SNPrs13483821 (LOD 5.795) . Chromosome 4 (combined cross) QTL Desp6 mapped at position 99,462,176 bps with rs13477868 (LOD 21.6) and again the combined cross showed Desp5 mapping inXat 61,160,361 bps with SNP rs13483784 (LOD 5.474). Authors indicate that chromosome X locus Gabra3 is a candidate for chromosome X QTL Desp5.
