CSS1 consomic mice have an A/J chromosome 1 within a full complement of C57BL/6J chromosomes. A/J mice exhibit reduced open field arena activity when compared to C57BL/6J whereas the CSS1 consomic mice test as intermediate. 45 male and 48 female (C57Bl/6J x CSS1)F2 mice were informative in mapping a QTL controlling open field behavior to mouse Chromosome 1. The main effect QTL symbolized by MGI as Opefa maps with SNP rs31589855 at cM 69.2 near bp 179989475 with a LOD in excess of 2. Other loci in mouse chromosome 1 appear to have epigenetic interactions influencing open field behavior . Opefa maps near several previously identified open field activity QTLs on chromosome 1 including Opfa (81.6 cM), Axtofa1 (74 cM), and Axtofd1 (74 cM). There were no gender effects detected.
