Female and Male mice of chromosome 1 substitution strain (CS) C57BL/6J-Chr 1 A/J /NaJ were mated to C57BL/6J and the F1s were crossed to map a QTL responsible for motor activities in mice. Mapping analysis using 82 F2 mice was instrumental in identifying a 8.3 Mb region of mouse Chromosome 1 associated with motor activity. This QTL region is identified by MGI as Mota1. Mota1 was further mapped using SNP analysis and a panel of 2445 mice from a stock of heterogeneous mice including A/J, AKR/J,
BALB /cJ, C3H/HeJ, C57BL/6J, CBA/J, DBA/2J and LP/J. Using the heterogeneous mice the QTL region was further refined to a 312 kb region bounded by rs13475943 and rs13475944. This region included only one gene A830043J08Rik (Fam124b). There were no coding region differences in A830043J08Rik(Fam124b) for C57BL/6J vs A/J however there was a difference detected in the 3 prime UTR. Authors provide evidence that gene Epha2 may be a potential regulatory locus for Mota1. MGI curators put this locus at approximaetly49 cMs on mouse Chromosome 1.
