  The authors determined that all known Tpl1 provirus insertions occur immediately 5' of the first exon in Ets1. Previous mapping studies using a (C57BL/6J x M. spretus)F1 x C57BL/6J interspecific backcross had shown Tpl1 and Ets1 to be closely linked (~ 1.2 +/- 0.9 cM apart). This work indicates that Tpl1 and Ets1 are not separate loci and that the recombination events, detected here and in previous work, are actually intragenic recombinations which occur during meiosis.
