An exceptional Sxr' male (X/X Sxr') carried the male specific H-Y (Hya) positive antigen which is not normally observed in X/X Sxr' mice. This exceptional male also carried the Tdy locus which is characteristic of a normal Y Chromosome and would be consistent with expression of the Hya positive antigen. A number of meiotic configurations were presented to explain how the Sxr' region could be replaced by Hya and Tdy. The authors suggested that for recombination to occur both genes most likely would have to reside on the short arm of the Y Chromosome (Yp) with recombination occurring during spermatogenis in the X/Y Sxr' father of Sxr' (the exceptional male).
