An experimental line, CYPYM, derived from a cross of inbred line P/2, C57BL/10Sn and M. m. molossinus, was used to more precisely map the Eg gene to Chromosome 8. CYPYM contains a unique recombination within the esterase cluster, separating (Es1, Es6) and (Es9, Es22). CYPYM carries the (Es9, Es22) region from P/2, the (Es1, Es6) proximal region from C57BL/10Sn and the region distal to (Es9, Es22) from M. m. molossinus. Analysis of the CYPM line indicates that Eg and Es22 are both close to Es9and were co-transferred from the P/2 line during the construction of CYPM. Based on strain distribution patterns for alleles, inheritance of the monomers, location of the structural gene and physical, biochemical and biological properties (including kinetics and tissue specific expression), the authors conclude that Eg and Es22 are identical.
