Notes
  • Experiment
The lgl transgene was shown to be allelic to iv by mating SI/Col strain (iv/iv) with lgl/+ mice. Among 30 offspring, 15 inherited the lgl allele, and of these, 10 were phenotypically situs inversus. Thus, iv and lgl do not complement for the situs inversus phenotype although none of the progeny displayed the lgl phenotype. Molecular evidence showed that the lgl transgene represents two distinct, but closely linked, transgene insertions at least 30 kb apart. These data indicate that the lgl transgene disrupted a gene allelic with iv and another gene important in limb development.
