Detailed restriction analysis of the Surf4 gene within the surfeit gene complex on Chromosome 2 indicates that this gene overlaps the 3' end of the Surf2 gene by 133 bp. Surfeit genes 1-4 are separated by no more than 73 bp between them. Two more surfeitgenes, Surf5 and Surf6, are added to the complex adjacent to Rpl7a. A restriction map provides an order of Surf6, Surf5, Rpl7a, Surf1, Surf2 and Surf4. A distance of 70 bp between Rpl7a and Surf1 and 15-73 bp between Surf1 and Surf2 was indicated. Four CpG-rich islands are identified within the complex. A detailed analysis of Surf1 to -4 is in Williams, T., et al. (1988). PNAS. 85:3527-3530.
