    The assignment of Cfp to the X Chromosome was confirmed by Southern analysis taking advantage of a TaqI variant between laboratory strains and M. spretus. F1 hybrid females inherit both the M. musculus and M. spretus X Chromosomes and display both bands on Southerns. F1 hybrid males inherit only the maternal (M. musculus) X Chromosome and only one band (musculus) is observed on Southerns.
