  To localize Xiaf1 in pedigree 24.21, the authors utilized a genetic cross that was used to generate the pedigree. In the cross, G0 BALB/cByJ founder male were outcrossed and all subsequent generations to a tester strain carrying a M. musculus castaneus X chromosome. The proximal half of mouse chromosome 15 was the only region that exhibited significant linkage to the mutant phenotype (P < 0.004).
