    Somatic cell hybrids were from fusions of Chinese hamster E36 cells and peritoneal macrophages from A/HeJ mice. Genomic DNA was digested with HindIII or XbaI and hybridized on Southern blots using the v-abl DNA probe pAB3sub3. Because this analysis indicated that Chromosome 2 or 19 could carry Abl, one of the hybrids (MACH2A2) was subcloned and analyzed further. Of 3 Abl positive subclones, all retained Chromosome 2. In 1 Abl negative subclone (H3) Chromosome 2 was absent, but Chromsome 19 retained, thusassigning Abl to Chromosome 2.
