    Crosses involving (BALB/c CAST/Ei)F1 sfx/+ parents produced 217 affected mice among . Collectively the 217 affected mice were used in a genome wide scan to map the locus.

    Analysis of recombination events along mouse Chromosome 14 indicated a gene order of: centromere -D14Mit203 - (1.9 0.9 cM) - sfx - (11.8 2.2 cM) - D14Mit34.

    Subsequently ( J:112377) sfx was shown to be a deletion in Gulo
